Client Overview

Located on 36 acres of native bushland near Creswick, Victoria, Log Cabin Camp is a fully accredited outdoor education and adventure venue for schools, community groups, corporate retreats, and family programs.

Known for its safe, nature-based learning experiences, the camp blends adventure, environmental responsibility, and personal growth. Guests enjoy exclusive, sole-occupancy stays with accommodation for up to 164 people in rustic log cabins and leader lodgings, supported by modern facilities, dining spaces, and on-site staff. Activities like the giant swing, dual ziplines, canoeing, bushwalks, and team-building challenges foster confidence, teamwork, and environmental awareness.

With a strong commitment to sustainability and safety, Log Cabin Camp has been an ideal partner in pioneering the HYDROS Smart Sewage Treatment System. As one of the first adopters, the camp helped demonstrate how smart, modular sewage treatment can transform off‑grid operations. Over the years, Log Cabin and Aubin Environmental have grown together, refining solutions and ensuring the camp’s infrastructure evolves to support its environmental and operational goals.

The Challenge

When new owners Grant and Christine purchased Log Cabin Camp, they discovered the existing toilet waste system did not meet EPA standards, presenting an immediate environmental and operational challenge. For a nature‑focused venue hosting children and community groups, the need for a safe, fully compliant, and sustainable sewage treatment solution was essential to protect both guests and the surrounding environment.

They required a cost‑effective, long‑term sewage treatment solution that could integrate with existing infrastructure and meet the following needs:

  • Achieve full regulatory compliance without a complete infrastructure rebuild.

  • Operate reliably off‑grid with minimal maintenance.

  • Support environmental goals, aligning with the camp’s values of responsibility and stewardship.

The Solution

Aubin Environmental implemented a HYDROS Smart Sewage Treatment System tailored to the camp’s unique operational and environmental requirements. By integrating HYDROS with the existing tanks, the project avoided unnecessary capital costs while delivering full regulatory compliance and long‑term reliability.

Key features included:

  1. Integration with existing infrastructure, minimising cost and disruption.

  2. 24/7 remote monitoring via ROBOLAB and WATCHDOG, enabling early fault detection and continuous compliance.

  3. Water reuse capabilities, using treated water to irrigate play areas and create a wetland habitat that now attracts local wildlife.

  4. Robust, low‑maintenance design, allowing the system to be easily serviced by the camp team with Aubin’s ongoing remote and technical support.

This installation marked HYDROS’ first-ever deployment, forming the foundation of a long-term partnership built on trust and shared growth.

The Outcome

The HYDROS Smart Sewage Treatment System provided Log Cabin Camp with a fully compliant, low‑maintenance solution that integrated seamlessly with the existing infrastructure. Continuous remote monitoring ensures system health and regulatory compliance at all times, giving the owners confidence and peace of mind.

The reuse of treated water has delivered operational savings and environmental benefits, transforming previously unused land into a thriving wetland that attracts local wildlife and enhances the camp’s natural ecosystem. This project resolved the camp’s immediate compliance challenge while providing long‑term sustainability and operational reliability.

Today, Log Cabin Camp is preparing for an upgraded HYDROS system, with the original frame from the first unit being repurposed in line with Aubin Environmental’s commitment to resource efficiency and environmental care. This tailored, sustainable approach ensures that the system remains robust, simple to maintain, and aligned with the camp’s environmental and operational priorities.
